Tracing Microendolithic Ichnocenoses: A paleoecological and taphonomic approach over the Phanerozoic

The microbial endoliths study from the Western Carpathians region was a semi-quantitative survey that included six sampling localities. Samples, ranging from Upper Oligocene to Miocene (Serravalian), came from three localities in Czechia (Mikulov, LOM-1 and Hevlín), two in Slovakia (DNV and LKŠ) and one place in Hungary (Tard Clays, Rozalia Quarry). The main goal of this project was to verify how different levels of hypoxia, established for studied intervals, would affect the microendolilthic assemblages present in tests of benthic foraminifera. Additionally, microbial activity and byproducts, and the overall interplay between bioerosion and bioprecipitation are also analysed. The degree of hypoxy was established using ratio of oxic/dysoxic and hypoxic foraminifera, defined as Benthic Foraminifera Oxygen Index (BFOi) Sampled index shows a predominance of dysoxic indicators, with rare oxic elements. Secondary electron elemental analysis (EDX) reveals a significant enrichment of sulphur, phosphorus and iron in biofilm samples from DNV and Hevlín, when compared to the rock matrix surrounding it. Paleozoic glaciation as an analog for Quaternary glacial cycles?

This bachelor thesis is focused on the comparison of the two main glacial periods of the Phanerozoic, the Late Paleozoic Ice Age and the Cenozoic Ice Age including Pleistocene. The main goal of the thesis is to compare the factors of glaciation and their controlling mechanisms on short and long-term scales, and the basic features of the Earth's circulation. Last but not least, the evaluation of unresolved questions and consideration of the possibility of using data from the Cenozoic, which point to a very complex behaviour of the climate system components. In both periods compared, the main climate driver appears to be the atmospheric greenhouse gas content. Another common feature is the declining trend in temperature, manifested initially by a less significant and ephemeral glaciation during the Upper Devonian, Eocene and Oligocene. The transition to the coldest phases with the lowest average temperature and the largest ice volume is characteristic. Based on CO2 content, amplitude of glacioeustatic oscillations or Milankovitch cycles, a sequence of several glaciation events in the Serpukhovian to Sakmarian interval can be considered as an analogue of the Pleistocene. Selected localities of Prague for teaching biology and geology

This bachelor thesis is focused on the most important Prague locations that are suitable for biological and geological excursion. Very important is practical teaching biology and geology. It is desirable that students understand the processes of ancient geological history, that they have seen with their own eyes preserved fossils and that they know how plants and animals which are integral part of teaching biology look like. In this point of view the theoretical teaching in the classrooms is insufficient. In the work is included biological and geological characteristics of selected sites aimed at their geologicla formation, rock, fossils, plants and animals that are found there. Itinerary for each excursion should be designed. There are links to worksheets made by methodical portal RVP which are the part of my work. Short introduction of teaching biology and geology in foreign countries and their access to excursion is presented as well. This thesis was designed for teachers of biology and geology to make preparations of their own excursions easier.
